Prosecutor Ernst Will Continue Probe Of Suicide Case
STANBERRY, Mo. - (AP) - County Prosecutor C. E. Ernst said he would continue an investigation of the fatal shooting of Clinton Cooper, 59, after a coroner's jury yesterday returned an open verdict without specifying who did the shooting.
The body of Cooper, a farmer, was found about 50 feet from the spot where a car driven by Mrs. Clinton B. Houston, a neighbor, had overturned on a road near here Thursday night.
Mrs. Houston told the coroner's Jury Cooper earlier had demanded repayment of money she had borrowed and was unable to return at the time.
She testified she saw Cooper on the road that night and that he fired a shotgun blast at her as she drove past in her car. The shot broke her right arm and caused her to lose control of the car, she said.
Officers said a shotgun was found under Cooper's body and that he had been shot in the head.
Mrs. Houston testified that she sold the shotgun to Cooper several weeks ago.
