John returned to his Heavenly Father and loved ones May 21, 2011. He was born April 15, 1923 in Ogden. The son of John Leo Cooney and Thelma Woodmansee. He married Lenore London August 28, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
John was raised and educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High and attending Weber College. He joined the Army air Force in 1943, serving in the occupation of Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He worked at Hill Air Force Base and Marquardt. He loved machinist work so much that he started his own business in 1964, Cooneys Machine Shop, now run by his two sons.
John loved fishing, hunting, golfing, mostly camping and outings with his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lenore; children, John III (Sandra), Lorraine Kendell (Melvin), Christopher (Shauna); brother, Robert; brother-in-law, Dr. Farrell Calton; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elizabeth; sisters, Gloria and Patricia.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd.
Interment, Ogden City Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
Our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Alton Wagnon, Dr. Carl Gray, Legacy Health Care and too many wonderful people to name. Thank you Bill Morton, a loving true friend.
