Minnie Ella Cool Blake
Mrs. H. P. Blake, born Minnie Ella Cool, November 21, 1858, was the fifth child of seven born to Honorable Joseph and Nancy Bates Cool in Sand Springs, Iowa. She, with her parents, in a covered wagon, came to Cloud County, Kansas, in September, 1876. She made her home the remainder of life in or near Glasco. She departed this life on march 26, 1947, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 5 days.
She received her schooling in Iowa and Concordia, Kansas. She taught several terms of school, sometimes walking as far as two and one-half miles morning and evening. One term f school she was visited by a band of Indiana.
On March 25, 1884, she was united in marriage to Herbert P. Blake and departed this life just 63 years and one day from that date. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1934. Mr. Blake preceded her to the Great Beyond April 21, 1937.
To this union three sons were born: Percy N., of Longview, Washington; Cool F. of Glasco, with whom she made her home; and a son who died in infancy.
She was a member of the Glasco Methodist church and ladies Aid which she attended regularly as long as health permitted.
She was a faithful member of the Rebekah and P. N. G. lodges, and Women's Christian Temperance Union. She always gave her support to the upbuilding or betterment of the community.
She understood child nature and never was more happy than when surrounded by eager children listening to the true stories of her life, and happenings in early days or when she provided entertainment for some gathering. She was well informed, and took great interest in the welfare of all her loved ones.
She leaves the sorrowing hearts of her two sons, fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; one brother, L. H. Cool of Glasco, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Glasco, Friday afternoon, March 28, at 2:30 o'clock, with the Rev. C. L. Moody officiating. ............. Interment was in Glasco cemetery with the Griffith Funeral Home in charge.
