Norma Jean Cooke Blanchard


Hickory, N.C. - Norma Jean Cooke Blanchard, 67, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Born Sept. 26, 1940, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Ray B. and Polly Miller Cooke.

She was active in the American Cancer Society, Bible Study Fellowship and founded the Compassionate Friends Organization.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Rae Drum, and a brother, Steven R. Cooke.

She is survived by a son, Michael Drum and wife, Denise, of Hickory; a daughter, Kathy D. Triplett and husband, Kenny, of Hudson; granddaughters, Marie Martha Drum and Danielle Ashley Drum, both of Hickory, and Kenley Rae Triplett of Hudson; a sister, Renee Cooke Biggs of Hickory; a niece, Jana B. Abee of Hickory; a nephew, Kevin M. Biggs and wife, Melissa, of Conover; and a great-niece, Myla Biggs of Conover.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Friday, April 25, 2008, in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Doug Howell officiating.

Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
