He was serving as the co-pilot on a B-24 that took off from Hardwick with an assigned target of V rocket sites the Pas-de-Calais. The aircraft was badly damaged by flak near Gent, the number four engine caught fire and the Pilot peeled and headed for the coast but all the crew were forced to bail out. The aircraft crashed 1750hrs about 1000 yards NE of the outskirts of Brugge, Belgium. There were 3 KIA and 7 POW. The three casualties apparently delayed their jump too long. The nose gunner T/Sgt Kenneth V Ehrhart is buried in Epinal in B Plot Row 30 Grave 38
