Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service hour Thursday at the church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will take place at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery.
Dena was born on June 14, 1929, in DeWitt, Iowa, the daughter of Claude H. Wendt of DeWitt and Anna A. Stanton of Leads, S.D. Dena graduated from St. Joseph's High School in DeWitt in 1948.
Prior to graduation, she lived in Clinton for a short period to help baby-sit a nephew and she attended St. Mary's High School. After graduation,
Dena worked at Iowa Mutual in DeWitt until her marriage on Aug. 16, 1952, to James "Jim" Cook of Maquoketa.
Dena was a homemaker and enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including cooking, gardening, crocheting and travel. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and during her life she enjoyed watching and participating in various sports activities, especially golf with family and friends. She was a devoted spectator at her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and six siblings, Marie (Walter) Cook of Clinton, Thomas (Ursula) Wendt of Philadelphia, Pa., Elizabeth (Les) Clements of Orlando, Fla., Joseph Wendt of DeWitt, Millicent (Al) Schrader of DeWitt, and John (Avis) Wendt of Clinton.
