James R. Cook Jr.
Retired county transportation supervisor for South Carolina Department of Education
James Rosemond Cook Jr., 71, of 109 Hillside Drive, died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Peachtree Centre.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Shirley McCraw Cook and son of the late James Rosemond Cook Sr. and the late Nell Cannon Cooksey Cook.
Mr. Cook was retired county transportation supervisor for the S.C. Department of Education. A graduate of Gaffney High School and USC, he was retired from the S.C. National Guard. He was a past member of the Cherokee County School Board and Rotary of Gaffney, a member of First Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Betsy Cook Jolliff of Gaffney; three sons, Charles Cotesworth Cook of Greenville, David Cannon Cook and James Rosemond Cook III, both of Gaffney; a sister, Carolyn Cook Alexander of Union; and grandchildren, James Rosemond Cook IV, Mary Katherine Cook, Margaret Ashley Cook, Savanna Johnson Cook, Charles Cotesworth Cook Jr., Ross Kurt Jolliff, Megan Lauren Jolliff and Justin Matthew Jolliff.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Joel Sellers and Col. Roy Mathis.
Pallbearers will be James Cook IV, Justin M. Jolliff, Timothy P. Childers, Michael M. McCraw, Charles C. Alexander, Henry G. Alexander Jr., Eugene F. Palmer and Donald Brock.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Anthony Hopper Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church and the Friday Morning Men's Breakfast Club.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-7:30 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.
