A memorial service for Eloise A. Cook, 82, of Greenacres, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at Coos Bay Chapel, 685 Anderson Ave. Pastor Thomas Stroud, of Greenacres Community Church, will officiate. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday before the service.
Eloise was born Aug. 12, 1924, in Myrtle Point, to Earl C. and Alice V. Standley. She died Feb. 7, 2007, in Coos Bay.
She grew up in Coaledo and attended Coaledo Grade School and Coquille High School. She married Joseph C. Cook just before he volunteered to join the U.S. Army in 1942. They were married for 51 years.
During the war, Eloise worked at Evans Products Company in Coos Bay and later, learned the skills of creating beautiful myrtlewood items, especially children's furniture.
She enjoyed playing with her four children, taking them many places and enjoyed the outdoors. She also enjoyed bowling and going dancing with her husband. Her pets were happy parts of her life.
Eloise is survived by her son, Ivan Cook; three daughters, Alice Cook of Greenacres, Carol Cook of Camano Island, Wash., and Vera Cook of North Bend; sister, Marie Heckard of Coos Bay; sister-in-law, Barbara Jackson of Dillard; granddaughter, Eloise Lynne Cook of Quinlin, Texas; great grandson Edward Joseph Cook of Texas; grandson, Johnathon Cook, currently serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Cook; her parents; two brothers, Calvin Standley and Orton Standley; and grandson, Ivan Cook II.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202; or to the charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel, 267-3131.
