Mr. Merrill Linwood Cook, 92, of 1360 South Church Street, North Adams, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, Vermont.
He was born at home in North Adams on June 26, 1919, son of Howard and Grace (Burnett) Cook. He graduated from Drury High School.
Merrill was last employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in Williamstown for sixteen years until his retirement in 1981.
After his retirement, he drove a school bus in Adams for many years. He enjoyed wood-working and gardening.
His wife was the former Ruth Kline who died April 22, 1986. They were married in 1948 at the First Baptist Church in North Adams.
Survivors include three sons, Keith Cook and his wife, Sheryl of Greenwich, New York; Craig Cook and his wife, Barbara of West Danville, Vermont; and Kimball Cook and his wife, Karen of Florida, Massachusetts; a son in law- George Foster of Shushan, New York; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A son and a daughter predeceased him including Brent Cook and Debrey Foster. A granddaughter, Rebecca Cook, died in infancy and a grandson, Anderson Foster, is deceased. Two brothers, Roy Cook and Edward Cook, are also deceased.
The funeral will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main Street, North Adams.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams.
