Joseph Cook, well known retired mail carrier
of Frankfort, Kansas passed away on Satur-
day afternoon June 2, 1945 at 2:30 p.m. at
his home in Frankfort, following an illness
of several weeks. He would have been 85
years of age in August.
Mr. Cook had lived in this city for 70 years
coming from Hartford City, Indiana when he
was a young man. His wife had lived here
76 years and they celebrated their 61st wedd-
ing anniversary on March 9, 1945.
Mr. Cook was a good citizen and supporter
of the community, a member of the I.O.O.F.
Lodge for over forty years, and took an
active interest in the social and fraternal
life of Frankfort, but the outstanding accom-
plishment of his life was the completion of
25 years of faithful service as a Rural Letter
Carrier out of the Frankfort Post Office.
He started carrying mail shortly after the
rural system was established and drove a
team for twelve years at $50 a month and
an auto for 13 years. When he retired in
1925 his patrons regretted very much to lose
him. His 28 mile route took him through
the Swede Settlement.
Besides his wife he is survived by five child-
ren; Willis Cook, San Francisco, California,
Ivan Cook, Concord, California, Guy Cook,
Salem, Oregon, Winnie Cook of the home,
and Lana Belle Lewis, Blue Rapids, Kansas
a sister, Mrs. Dave Rogers, Hartford City,
Indiana; two bothers, John Cook, Higgins,
Texas, James Cook, Carneiro, Kansas.
Funeral services were held at the Padden
Funeral Chapel on Monday afternoon.
Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery,
Frankfort, Kansas.
