Obituary Xenia Gazette March 6, 1899: Mrs. Nannie A., wife of George W. Borden, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Harned, of East Third street, on Saturday night, about 8 o'clock, after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Borden was the daughter of Richard and Eliza Conwell and was born in Xenia, June 14, 1834, thus at the time of her death being in her 65th year. She was brought up in this city and the greater part of her life was spent here. On June 21, 1852, she was united in marriage to Geo. W. Borden, who for a great many years worked at the harness and saddlery business in this city in the employ of Brinton Baker, finally going to Cincinnati and securing a position, his wife joining him there about 1878. It was rather an unusual circumstance that Mrs. Borden first saw the light of day in the house at No. 14 East Third street; it was there that she was wedded and there that she closed her eyes in the last sleep. She had expressed the desire a number of times that the end should come in that house and she came from Cincinnati on last Thanksgiving day, and has since been making her home with Mr. and Mrs. Harned. She died in her reclining chair in which she spent her last days, the nature of her illness preventing her from lying down. Mrs. Jno. A. Harned and Miss Kate Conwell, of this city, are two surviving sisters and are the last of a family of twelve children. The deceased was a member of the M. E. church. The funeral will take place Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Harned.
March 7, 1899:
Impressive services were held this morning over the remains of Mrs. Geo. W. Borden, and many friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Harned to pay the last tribute of respect to her memory. Rev. Turrell preached the funeral discourse and several appropriate musical selections were rendered. The interment took place at Woodland cemetery. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Borden leaves two sons, Henry, of Xenia, and Alonzo, of Springfield.
