ANOTHER OLD SETTLER PASSED AWAY.
Mrs. Patrick Convey, a former resident of Waseca, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. O'Grady of Janesville Wednesday morning, Aug. 9, at 9:30, after an illness of nine days with ailments incident to old age. The deceased was a resident of Waseca County for nearly fifty-four years. Mrs. Patrick Convey, whose maiden name was Bridget Malarkey, was born in County Silgo, Ireland, April 17, 1842. Coming to America when eighteen years of age, she spent about two years in Connecticut and then came to Fond Du Lac Couty, Wis., when she resided six years. She was married in Wisconsin Sept. 25, 1898 (1868 – sic), to Mr. Patrick Convey, who died Jan. 6, 1909. They came to Waseca County settling on a farm in Freedom Township, where she made her home until nine years ago when she moved to Waseca where she resided until four years ago, when she moved to Janesville. To this union nine children were born, three who died in infancy and Mrs. Martin Gallagher who died two years ago.
She leaves to mourn her loss five daughters, Mrs. Mary Kaiser of Waseca, Mrs. James Joyce of Janesville, Mrs. Emmet Hammel of Alton, Mrs. James Moonan and Mrs. Geo. O'Grady of Janesville, and fifteen grandchildren.
The funeral was held from St. Ann's Catholic Church, Janesville, Friday morning and the remains laid to rest in St. Mary's Catholic cemetery beside those of her husband.
She did her share together with other sturdy pioneers in transforming a wilderness into a civilized community.
