Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" (Nugent) Conte, 76, of Worcester, Mass., devoted wife, mother, aunt and sister, passed away peacefully at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester on January 9, 2012 after a brief illness. Betty Lou is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John J. Conte; her four children and their spouses Nancy and Pat Lacey of South Hadley; Joseph and Anita Conte of Worcester; Thomas and Ellen Conte of Worcester; and Timothy and Keri Conte of Auburn. Betty Lou was devoted to her six grandchildren: Nicholas, Abigail, Mia, Gabriella, Ryan and Amelia. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Betty Lou was born July 28, 1935 to Thomas and Dorothy Nugent. She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters Patricia Walsh and Dorothy Russell. Betty Lou grew up in Worcester and graduated from North High School and Anna Maria College. She was an elementary school teacher in Norwalk, Connecticut as well as in Shrewsbury and Worcester, Massachusetts. She enjoyed many diverse hobbies including reading, gardening, collecting dolls, knitting, quilting and sewing. Betty Lou will be remembered for her strong faith as a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel/St. Ann parish and as a frequent communicant at daily Mass at St. Joan of Arc Church. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday Jan. 13th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry Street, Worcester. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Anna Maria College, 50 Sunset Lane, Box K, Paxton, MA 01612. The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
