Anna M. Constable was born December 16, 1867 in Johnstown, Pa. In 1870 she moved with her parents, William and Elizabeth Constable to Shelby County, Iowa. She lived on the home place one mile east of Irwin until her marriage to Lewis Carter on February 21, 1889 and lived in or near Irwin most of her life. She died at the Monson nursing home in Irwin Saturday, April 9, 1955.
Four children were born to this marriage, Lora Sloan of Olney, Illinois and William Ray and Melvin Carter of Irwin.
In addition to her children she is survived by eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs Clara Douglas of Hiram, Ohio, and a brother, Frank of Monticello, Minn. Preceding her in death were her husband, eight brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter and grandson.
She was a member of the Christian church and Royal Neighbors lodge of Irwin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 12 at the Pauley funeral home in Harlan with Pastor S.L. Schuler in charge. Pallbearers were Carl Lykke, Lowell Yost, Oscar Erickson, Carl Larsen, Harold Crouch and Joh Vaa Assalt. Music was furnished by Ed Ames, Alfred Larson, Ed Larson and Harold Pauley. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery at Irwin.
