Aurilla Leota Hufford Connor was born to Henry and Nettie Hufford. She was christened in Grace EUB Church. She graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1910. Being talented musically, she attended and graduated from Toledo Music and Art Conservatory in 1922. One of her piano compositions her daughter had put on tape by a musician, Ray Ebert, the church organist at Centenary United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem, NC. At age 16 she became a committed Christian. She married Rev. Marion C. Connor, Oct 1, 1912 in Mt. Hebron Bible School in North Carolina. He had been one of her students. After marriage Marion and Aurilla went into the ministry of the church serving pastorates in Dunkirk and Belfountain, Ohio. Then they moved to central South Carolina where she taught at Central College. Leaving Central College in 1921, they returned to Perrysburg to care for her aging father, Henry. In 1925 they returned south and served Wesleyan Methodist Pastorates until their retirement. Aurilla did some substitute teaching in the public school's primary grades. In churches she taught piano, voice, choir choral conducting, mission courses, and Sunday School teacher training courses. She served for 25 years as the Superintendent of the North Carolina Conference Young Missionary Workers Band. During WWII, when there was such a demand in the USA Service Centers for military personnel clerks to handle the records of the deceased service men and women, Aurilla served in the microfilm department center in High Point which recorded the deaths of the soldiers from North Carolina. Aurilla and Marion had three children: Clyde Hufford Connor, Glenn Foy Connor and Virginia Ruth Connor.
