Mary Ethel Conner was born one of triplets at the family home near Vardaman, MS, in Calhoun County. Her parents were William Manley and Luxora Powell Conner. She graduated from Blue Mountain College with a major in math and a minor in science. She married Lentz Durell Gatlin Aug 28, 1936,and the couple had two daughters, Connie and Barbara, and one son, Lentz Jr. Mary Ethel taught mathematics in the public schools Columbus, MS, but was mostly a stay at home wife and mother. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, church work, and any kind of game or puzzle.
