Obituary of Shirley Conner
August 15, 1937 - February 20, 2008
Sis. Shirley Conner was born August 15, 1937 in Picayune, MS to the late Min. Robert J. Kelly, Jr. and Missionary Eula Mae Mills Kelly.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ in Picayune, MS. She attended Carver High School where she lettered four years in basketball. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA where she was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
Sis. Conners moved to Gulfport, MS over forty years ago. She was employed with Lockett's Mortuary and Garden Park as an accountant. She became a member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Senior Usher, member of Senior Mission until her health began to fail. She was a member of Heroines of Jericho, Pride of North Gulfport Elks Lodge, and a team mother for North Gulfport and Harrison Central Basketball Booster Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Eugenia Conner, one brother, Sandy Kelly, three sisters, Geraldine Roach, Ernestine Batson, and Ms. Shirley's twin, Curly Ransom.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Eric Conner, her caretaker, Vincent Harrison and Andre Conner all of Gulfport, MS; three brothers: Elder Samuel Kelly, Derider, LA; Paul Kelly, Upper Marlboro, MD and Bob Kelly, Chicago, IL; three sister-in-laws, Reather Kelly, Lina Kelly and Toria Kelly; five grandchildren Arori and Azalayia Conner, Schuylr and Stone Harrison, Chance Shine and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Rev. Dr. Lawrence Collins, Sr., pastor of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, in Gulfport, will deliver her eulogy.
