Benjamin Allen Conner Jr., 62, of Davenport, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Manor Care Health Services, Davenport.

In accordance with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service was held 4 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Family and friends gathered from 3 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place privately at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the family for a trust fund to be established for his daughter, Shantea Conner.

Benjamin was born June 27, 1942, in Paris, Mo., the son of Benjamin Allen and Ruth Beechum Conner Sr. He previously had been married to Barbara Ann Liddell. He was an Army veteran.

Benjamin worked for the Rock Island Arsenal as a clerk and also for the JTPA program as a caseworker. He won awards in high school for being an outstanding basketball player. He liked swimming and was an avid sports fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors (and spouses) include his daughters, Teresea Veasley, St. Louis, Mo., Londa Smith, Clarksville, Tenn., and Shantea Conner, Rock Island; sons, Ricky (Alisha) Conner, Rock Island, Michael (Dawn) Conner, Moline, and Terrell and Ervin Conner, both of Rock Island; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Barbara and Christine Conner, Shirley (Bobby) Ray, Darlene White, Betsy (Kirk) Foster, and Linda Conner, all of Davenport; brothers, Russell (Sandy) Conner Sr., and Robin Conner, Davenport, and Richard Conner, Tucson, Ariz.; and a host of nieces and nephews. His parents, and a son, Eddie Conner, preceded him in death.
