REV EUGENE CONKLIN
The Rev Eugene Landon Conklin of Derby Line, Vermont passed away last Sunday morning at the Montreal Hospital, Montreal, Canada. He had been ill since last November and was unable to fill his pulpit during the past six months.
Mr Conklin was born in Southold, the son of the late David and Julia Conklin. He had spent all of his summers here with his family and grandchildren and had many friends in Southold and vicinity. He attended the Southold Academy and from there went to Hamilton College from which he graduated in 1889.
Mr Conklin then attended the Meadville Theology Seminary and was ordained in the Universalist ministry in 1892. He held pastorates in New York and Illinois and was Superintendent of Universalist Churches in the latter state. He was appointed as pastor of the Universalist Church in Derby Line, Vermont in 1920 and remained there until the time of his death.
He leaves a widow, Agnes R Conklin; two daughters, Mrs Holbrook Mulford of Oak Park, Ill, and Mrs Max Miller of Cherry Valley NY and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Derby Line on Wednesday of this week.
