Jane was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in York, Green Co., Wisconsin where her family moved to in 1842. She married John Prince Bryant there in 1852. They had 4 children: Florence, Seymore J., Lillian, and Alice (Alice died at 1 year of age in 1860). John Prince Bryant was killed in the Civil War in a battle at Corinth, Mississippi, 1862, his body was never recovered. In the summer of 1863 she moved to NE California where her parents had settled. She married Myron Charles Lake in Sept. 1864 and the settled in the area that was to become Reno, Nevada. She and Myron had 1 son, Myron Charles Lake, Jr in 1875. They divorced in 1881, she never remarried. When she died, her remains were taken to San Francisco, California and cremated in response to her last request.
