Marie L. Means, age 95, of Sand Springs went to be with the Lord, Tuesday morning, October 10, 2006 in Tulsa.
Mrs. Means was born on March 22, 1911 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Walter J. and Nellie Mae (Damon) Conkey. She grew up and graduated from High School in Oelwein, Iowa. In 1932, she was united in marriage to Paul Means in Nevada, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 5, 1989. In the fall of 1932 they came to Sand Springs where Mr. Means worked at the Southwest Box Company which later became the Hoerner Box Company. Mrs. Means also did clerical work for the Hoerner Box Company after Mr. Means became ill and had to retire. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sand Springs where she was an Elder and a Deacon. She was also a Past President of the Women's Association of the Church, Past President and founding member of the Pilot Club of Sand Springs and also a past President of the Mother's Club of Sand Springs. She enjoyed her family and helping others.
Marie is survived by five sons, William Means and wife Mary Ellen of Tulsa, Robert Means and wife Estella of Edmond, Thomas Means and wife Ann of Nashville, Tennessee, James Means and wife Carole of Tulsa and P. Richard Means and wife Joan of Pleasant Hill, California; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and one brother, Harold Conkey and wife Lucy of Modesto, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sand Springs with the Reverend Dan Milford officiating. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Home in Sand Springs.
