A 1937 graduate of Bucknell University, he studied at the Andover Newton Theological School, graduated in 1940 and was ordained at the First Baptist Church of Bradford; the ordination was recognized by the American Baptist Churches USA and other denominations. Subsequently, he served as pastor at the United Baptist Church of Lakeport, First Baptist Church of Richford, Vt., Lakewood Baptist Church of Ohio and in Massachusetts at First Parish Church of Bolton, United Parish of Winchendon and Federated Church of Ayer. The three Massachusetts churches each comprised three denominations. At the University of New Hampshire, he led the Campus Ministry that included six denominations along with the YMCA and YWCA. His call to the ministry began as an Ocean Park camper in the Royal Ambassador Boys Camp, founded for missionary education. He was active on area and state Councils of Churches and was a worker for Christian unity.
His community leadership was through the Grange, civilian defense, adult education, Citizens Coordinating Council, police pension fund, Kiwanis, Community Action Committee, youth center, Head Start, Cushing Academy chaplain, senior citizens groups, historical societies, 35 years with the Boy Scouts organization, YMCA camps in four states, director of Baptist camps in four states, a director of the U.S.O., a Red Cross director, swimming instructor, ski patrol and a 15-gallon blood donor.
In years of retirement, he was active in the First Baptist Church in Newton, Mass., and Ocean Park, Maine, and in the United Baptist Church of Saco. For his local church, he was chair of the deacons, volunteer pastoral visiting minister, clerk, collector for food banks and leader of weekly senior fellowship meetings. For his local community, he was active in the Ocean Park Association, the Pines, historical society and the Seacoasters. He was Saco Baptist interim pastoral assistant for Visitation in 1991. As a delegate to the area Council of Churches, he was in charge of publicity. Genealogy pursuits became a wonderful diversion in retirement.
Along with his wife, Helen, he moved from Ocean Park to Havenwood-Heritage Heights in Concord in 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Thurston) Condict of Concord; four children, Edgar Condict of New London, Clinton Condict Jr. of Silverthorne, Colo., Pat Mannion of Alton and Jim Condict Grace of Kisumu, Kenya; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and many nephews and nieces.
