Ellen Compton Covey, age 89, of Jacksonville Beach passed away March 23, 2013. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on January 20, 1924 and was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Compton.
Ellen graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and attended Florida State College For Women. She was a faithful member of Community Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deacon, an Elder, President of The Presbyterian Women and a choir member for 46 years. She also played the piano to 1st and 2nd graders in Sunday School for 10 years. She was active in Baptist Beaches Hospital Auxiliary having volunteered for years at the hospital, and was a member of Selva Marina Country Club since 1957. The family business, Covey Furniture, was one of Ellen's passions and she enjoyed years of working with customers.
Ellen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Ros Covey; her only son, Pete Covey; her son-in- law, A. Russell Anderson, her two sisters, Elizabeth Friend and Mae Jones; and her three brothers, Edgar Compton, Steedly Compton and Art Compton. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Carol Anderson (Jim) Brennan; and her grandsons, Reid Anderson and Tyler Anderson, all of the beaches and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 3:00 pm, at Community Presbyterian Church, 150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach, FL with Dr. Gabe Goodman officiating. Interment will be at Warren Smith Cemetery in Jacksonville Beach. The arrangements are under the care and direction of V. TODD FERREIRA FUNERAL SERVICES, 250 North Lowder Street, Macclenny, FL.
