Graveside services for Vera Holloway Colvin of Ruston, age 78 of Broken Arrow, Okla., formerly of Ferriday and Ruston, are scheduled for Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Mrs. Colvin died Friday, April 4, 2008, in Broken Arrow, Okla. after a long illness. She was born the daughter of Willis and Liddie Holloway in Baskin, on Sept. 15, 1929. She grew up in Lincoln Parish and graduated from Ruston High School in 1946. She married Arnold Colvin in 1950. She lived in Concordia Parish for 40 years and then later moved back to Ruston to be near family. She worked several years at both Louisiana Gas Company and Louisiana Power and Light in Ferriday. She was a member of the Ferriday Church of Christ and the Northside Church of Christ in Ruston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Colvin; sisters, Audrey Newell and Millie Rainwater; and brothers, Bill Holloway, Dayton Holloway, and Sebron Holloway. Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Colvin of Broken Arrow, Okla., and a son, Lavelle Colvin of Bossier City. She is also survived by one brother, Vernon Holloway of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of the donor's choice. Visitation is will be held Monday, April 7, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. at Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
