Birth: Jan. 2, 1920
Death: May 3, 2011

Mary Elizabeth Collins Bagot, 91 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on May 3, 2011.

Services will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Clifton A. Mann and The Rev. Jo Roberts Mann, officiating. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mary was born on Jan. 2, 1920, to Allie Smith and Thomas Woods Collins in Ringgold. When Mary was 2, after the untimely death of her father, Tom, Allie moved her four children to Canyon.

Mary grew up in Canyon and graduated from Canyon High School and West Texas Teacher's College. In the summer of 1941 after college graduation, Mary married Edward H. Bagot from Amarillo. She and Edward moved to Amarillo and raised four children there.

In 1960, Mary became a teacher with the Amarillo Independent School District, where she was employed both as a teacher and counselor at Crockett Jr. High and later as the senior counselor at Amarillo High School until she retired in 1985.

Mary was a gracious and loving woman who made many friends in Amarillo. She has always been a very active member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was involved with the Amarillo Jr. League and served as its president in the mid 1950s. Mary was also active in local book clubs throughout her years in Amarillo.

Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Frances Collins Christian, Ethel Ruth "Tince" Collins Spring, and Joe Bailey Collins; her husband, Edward H. Bagot; and two sons, Edward Lee Bagot and Joe Thomas Bagot.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Bagot Yock and her husband Brad of San Marcos; her son, Andrew Woods Bagot and his wife Lori of Austin; seven grandsons, William Bagot, Michael Bagot, Sam Bagot, Hayden Bagot, Blake Bagot, Nicholas Bagot and Benjamin Yock; and one granddaughter, Hannah Elizabeth Yock. Mary also leaves numerous beloved nieces and nephews who added to the richness of her life.

Mary's son and daughter want to express their gratitude to Pat Knight, Jo Mann, Clifton Mann and her St. Andrew's family who gave such meaning and joy to the final years of her life. She loved them deeply.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79102; the Mary Collins Bagot Scholarship at West Texas A&M, "WTAMU Foundation" Box 60765, Canyon, TX 79016; or a charity of their choice.

Family visitation will be at 3004 S. Hayden St. on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
