E. S. Collins is enumerated in the 1850 Federal Census of Marshall County, Mississippi. She is the 19 year old daughter of B. H.(49) and Prudence (35) Collins. Listed in the household with them are her 4 sisters: Charlotte (16), C. C. (12), P. S. (7), L. E. (5) and 2 brothers - Albert W. (3) and C. F. who is less than a year old.
By 1860 Elizabeth has moved to Yalobusha County, Mississippi and is married to M. C. Long. No children are listed for the couple. The B. H. Collins family has also moved to Yalobusha county and are listed in the 1860 Census.
The 1870 Census of Yalobusha County now lists M. C. as Mathew C. Long (39) along with his wife Elizabeth Long (30). The couple lists no children.
In 1880 M. C. and Elizabeth are listed in the Federal Census, still in Yalobusha County. No children are listed, but they have 2 servants living with them.
M. C. would die in 1881 and Elizabeth remarries:
Mississippi Marriages, 1776-1935
Name: W. H. Brister
Spouse: Mrs. Elizabeth Long
Marriage Date: 19 Feb 1884
Her second husband dies in 1890 and in the 1900 Federal Census we find Elizabeth living in a boarding house in Water Valley. Her birth date is listed as May 1835 and her age is 65 which calculates correctly as the Census was in June. A small surprise here - Elizabeth is listed as the mother of two children, of whom one is still living in 1900. That child would most likely be from her first marriage to Mathew C. Long.
