Mrs. Emegene Esther "Jean" Allen, 85, of Lebanon, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Hickory Creek of Lebanon, in Lebanon.
Mrs. Allen was born April 1, 1926, in Mansfield, Texas, the daughter of the now deceased William H. Collins Sr. and Carrie M. (Oliver) Collins. As a small girl she moved to Indianapolis, where she was reared and educated. She graduated from Washington High School.
She married Gordon P. Allen on July 21, 1972, in Martinsville. Mr. Allen passed away in November of 2008.
Prior to moving to Lebanon, Mrs. Allen had resided in Nashville, Ind. There she was a beautician for 25 years, and had also worked as a custodian for the Martinsville High School for 20 years.
She was a devoted sister and aunt who loved being involved with their family's activities. She liked to sew, knit and go fishing. She was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Women's Bowling Congress.
Survivors include sister, Kathryn Leo of Lebanon; local niece and nephews, Kathy B. Leo and Harry J. Leo II, both of Lebanon, and Daniel B. Leo and Companion, Shauna Burgess, of Indianapolis; and several other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, William H. Collins Jr. and Oliver Thomas Collins; and three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Clephane, Bernice Agnes Collins and Caroline Mae Freman.
Visitation is 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, June 27, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St., Lebanon. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Myers Chapel of Memories, with Chaplain David Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at the Lincoln Memory Gardens in Boone County
