Thomas was born Thomas Lay on Oct 25 1927 in London Ky.

He was the oldest child of 11.His brothers and sisters were:
James, Aaron, William, Jack, Matt, Roy, Albert who killed him. Pansy, Polly, and Maggie

Thomas Collins and Mary Marie LAY -Collins both born in Corbin Ky.

Dad was the Grandson of:

Jackson and Elizabeth-Tuttle Collins, Corbin Ky.

James and Susie Egner-Lay, Corbin Ky

When my dad Tom Jr. was 2 months old, his parents married and his name was changed to COLLINS after his dad Thomas Collins sr, and his mom's maiden name LAY was dropped.

Dad went by the names: Tom and Mike. Mike I do not know why.

Married: Syletta Taylor,Jan 15 1953 Hendricks County Indiana. They divorced fall of 1965. remained great friends up until dad's murder. Dad or mom never said a cross word about each other to us kids. They never put each other down. They always had kind words to say about each other. For that We are truly thankful and blessed to have had parents like them.

Father of 3 children:

Grandfather of 6:
Bradley, Josiah, Shane, Stacy, Kimberly, Alicia.

Great grandfather of 12:
Ashley, Brandy Love, Whitley, Paris, Bradon, Daniel, Taren, Taylor, Jarad, Chris, Joseph, Tra, (all Danny's grandkids)

Dad served in the Korea War, He was station out of Georgia

He loved his kids, mushroom hunting, telling TALLLLLL Tales, trading anything and all with anyone. He should of had his own trading post. In fact true story here, he traded his 2nd wife off for a pocket knife, a bottle and $50.00 buck to his friend.

Dad married Bernince Johnson of Reelsville, she was 19 at the time and they were married 4-5 years. They had no children. She went on to marry dad's friend Curly and that's the last I heard of her. 1970-71.

Dad was like a loner, most of his sibling were not nice to him or to his 3 children. His mom was down right mean to him and his 3 children.

His dad, Tom Collins Sr. done the best he could and tried to make his family do right, but his wife ( Mary) had this ungodly power over most of her children.I once ask grandpa,"why do you stay with her? Knowing all she does?" I do not get it grandpa" he replyed " I have been with her a long time, I try, I really try honey,I know you are treated bad, just know I love you honey".

Dad spent a lot of time in and out of the VA Hospital in Indianapolis. They always had him on so many pills, there were times he did not know who he was or where he was. I hated them for that. I think their motto was "DRUG EM' AND SEND THEM HOME!" For they done a great job of that. He would sleep for days, There were times I tried to wake him thinking he was dead, but he was just knocked out on drugs thanks to the VA Hospital.

Besides being beat on by his own brothers, 1 time someone broke in his house up in Indianapolis, tied dad up, stripped him of his clothes, robbed , raped and beat him so bad and left him to die. No one could get a hold of him for days so Grandpa had one of his kids take him to see if he was alright, The shock almost put grandpa in the hospital too. They found out dad had been there on that floor 3 days knocked out before he was found. Doctor said he would not of made it another day. They never did catch the men that done that to dad.

Dad's life was cut short May 22nd 1981, Friday night at 11:30 when one of his younger brother's named Albert shot him in the chest, and as he BEGGED for his life,"don't shoot me brother please don't shoot me".Then his brother put the gun to my dad's head and pulled the triger and murder Dad (Thomas Collins Jr). Robbing his children and their family's of much joy. All because his younger brother was jealous of him. This was so wrong, and worse than that, his brother got off saying he was insane at the time. NO, he was drinking as always. He may not of had to serve time for murder, but years later his oldest son is now doing life for murder. PAY BACK.

Dad loved to be with his kids, He spent more time with his youngest son David, they would go here and there and do this and that. One time David and dad went to the store, David got his stuff, and then he seen Dad laughing so hard. So he went up to him and ask "whats so funny".
Dad tried to tell him, but could not because the more he thought about it, the funnier it became. So David started laughing, After awhile Dad got it out why he was laughing. He realized what he had in his hands and did not want to purchas it. He needed it, but wanted David to go back through the line. Then David lost it and said no way. So what happen was they each took 1 thing and both went out the door laughing. What was it they bought??? X-lax and toilet paper. It was just one of those funny things. Dad was fun to be around.

Dad was loved by us and is truly missed. It has been 30 years now. You never get over it, you just live day to day and learn to move on.
