Born on November 4, 1919 at Dante, he was a son of the late Charlie and Mary Roten Collins.
He was a resident of Buchanan County several years and was a minister of the gospel for 74 years, serving Big Rock Pentecostal Church for 42 years with a radio broadcast ministry on radio station WNRG.
He served as president and vice-president of the Buchanan County Ministerial Association and was a nominee for the Buchanan County Hall of Fame.
Rev. Collins' gift from God was to establish new churches and over the span of 74 years he founded 50 churches and they all continue to flourish today. Thousands of souls have been won to Christ through his ministry.
At the age of 81, Preacher Collins resigned as pastor at Big Rock Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Collins of Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Diann Collins of Cedar Bluff; two grandchildren, Veronica McGlothlin of Cedar Bluff and Eric Collins of Memphis; three great-grandchildren, Elyssia Diann Reedy, Seth Hunter Collins and Lauren Rose McGlothlin; three sisters, Ollie Mannas of Coeburn, Thelma Auditore of Richmond and Violet Collins of New York City; and three brothers, Mack Collins of Cleveland, Va., Fred Collins of Lebanon and Pat Collins of Richmond.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dessel Mann and Lily Collins; and two brothers, Rufus and Dan Collins.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 22, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Keen officiating with entombment to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill.
Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6 p.m. with services at 7 p.m. conducted by Rev. Roger Williams and others.
Active pallbearers will be: Rev. Roger Williams, Rev. Tim Collins, Rev. Barry Absher, Brad Hurley, Rondal Belcher and Rev. Johnny Kibbey.
