Clinton MO - Mrs. T. J. Gilbert died at her home northwest of Clinton at 4:45 Monday morning. She had been acutely ill the past several weeks and under the care of a trained nurse the last five weeks. Amanda Belle Collins, member of an old Missouri family was born July 29, 1868, north of Clinton, where she grew to maturity. She and T. J. Gilbert were married September 15, 1888 at the home of her parents, 7 miles northwest of Clinton. Their union was blessed with seven children. Mr. Gilbert preceded his wife in death five years ago November 20. Surviving her are four children, Guynn Gilbert, a mile east of Deepwater; Mrs. Raymond Ferry, Lawrence, Kans., and Dot and Denver Gilbert of the home. Denver went to California two months ago, but returned to Henry County when he received word of the illness of his mother. The grandchildren, two sons of Mrs. Ferry and the son and four daughters of Guynn Gilbert, all beloved by Mrs. Gilbert, also one great grandson, Wayne Groff, and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Cathcard also survive her in Kansas City. Mrs. Gilbert was held in high esteem by her neighbors and counted a long list of friends. She joined the Baptist church at Garland many years ago, and remained loyal to the teachings of her Master until her death. A natural homemaker, she took great interest in her home and directed much of her energy toward raising poultry on her farm. She took an active interest in all farm duties, and lived a good and useful life. The funeral service was conducted at the First M.E. church in Clinton on Wednesday, and burial was in Englewood. Consalus & Peck were in charge. (obit from Henry Co. website, used with permission.)
