Ray was born in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of John and Cora Belle Collins. As a youth, he contracted polio which left him disabled. He later married Jennie Pruim, and they were the proud parents of one son, Robert Lowell. He passed away, and is survived by his six grandchildren; Jean, Frances, Mark, Timothy, Cheryl, and Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jennie; and his son, Robert.
