WILLIAMSBURG - Anne Elizabeth Hawks Coley, 79, of Williamsburg, continued her life's journey into eternal life on Saturday, April 24, 2004. She is with her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband of 51 years, Jack Coley; and her parents, Joseph Roane Hawks and Addie Mae White Hawks; and a great-grandson, Jonathan Taylor.
She is survived by her children, Mrs. Susan J. Soderholm of Williamsburg, Mrs. Sharon Coley Clayton and Mrs. Shirley Anne Taylor, both of Chesterfield County Va., John J. Coley of West Richlands, Wash., James F. Coley of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and a foster daughter, Joyce Whitehead of Montpelier, Va.; her sister, Mrs. Frances Moore of Poquoson, and brother, Joseph G. Hawks of Hampton. Fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren know her lovingly as ANNEMAW.
Anne was born and raised on the Peninsula, graduating from Hampton High School in 1942. She attended James Madison College in Harrisonburg from 1942-1944, Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta as part of the Nurse Cadet Corps during and following WWII, graduating in 1947 as a Registered Nurse. During her career, she worked at McQuire VA and Kecoughtan VA hospitals, hospitals in Huntsville, Ala., and retired from Hampton General Hospital in 1990.
Her service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints included Visiting Teacher, Relief Society President and Teacher, Primary teacher, Temple worker and Welfare Missionary.
