ANDERSON, Ruby Mac, passed to a better place in the early morning of June 4, 2016, the Lord called her home. Ruby was born September 19, 1921 to Carrie Lee Coleman and Andrew Jackson Coleman. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James E. Anderson. Ruby was one of 13 sisters and brothers born on the family farm in Orange County, Va. Of her siblings, she is survived by a brother, Stearns Coleman of Orange County, Va. and a sister, Agnes Donahoe of Snow Camp, N.C. Deceased brothers and sisters are, Andrew Coleman, Lily Coleman, Elsie Davis, Alice Weaver, Sarah Smyth, Claire Cole, Gent Coleman, Arthur Coleman, Eunice Melton, and Edward Coleman. Moving to Richmond, in her late teens, Ruby worked at various jobs and finished her career at E.I. Dupont de Nemours, with 40 years of service. Her love of all things music, led her to learn how to play the piano, the organ, the guitar and mouth harp. Ruby was a kind and loving person and spread this love over all of her many nieces and nephews. Through her many years of life, although without children from her marriage, she took on the role of Mother to so many. Ruby, never hesitated to answer the call for help when it came from a member of her very large family of nieces and nephews. As this large family grew, grandnieces and grandnephews appeared and then great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Brenda, her niece, was treated as a daughter and her two children, Carrie and Lee took on roles as Ruby's grandchildren. Her niece, Barbara Lynn, was very caring to Ruby as her health failed and needed joy in her life. Barbara could always bring a smile to Ruby's face when the day was not going well. Nelson and Carolyn shared a part of Ruby's life, which began at their birth. As her health declined, Nelson and Mary, his wife, and Carolyn were at her side assisting with the shared care giving responsibilities. As Ruby's health continued to fail, her daily care and wellbeing was delivered by her caregiver, Lillie Jackson. We cannot express in words the love we have for Lillie and what she has meant to our family. As her care became more intensive, an additional caregiver, Wanda Booker, was brought on board to assist with Ruby's care. We also express our deep gratitude to the people at Bon Secours Hospice for their guidance and assistance during Ruby's last days. Ruby's next door neighbors of 50 years, Dean and Sherman, were wonderful friends over these years and never hesitated to extend a caring hand if needed. Family and friends visitation will be held on June 7, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road. Funeral services will be held on June 8, at 12 noon, at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, with burial services following at Greenwood Memorial Garden, 12609 Patterson Avenue.
