"Holbrook, Jay Mack, MA Vital Records-Yarmouth 1665-1890, Sheet 37, p. 85, Intentions of Marriage entered in 1866, No. 30, Clerk's Office, Yarmouth the 25 day of Dec. 1866 between John Baker, Jr. of Yarmouth aged 37 years, by occupation a Seaman. He was born in Yarmouth and was the son of John & Charity Baker. This will be his second marriage. And Geneva Slocum of Barnstable aged 25 years. She was born in Barnstable and was the daughter of Theo Coleman Jr. & Besey Bolnia (sp?). This will be her second marriage. Wm. P. Davis, Town Clerk."
From this marriage intention, we see that her maiden name is Coleman and that she married first to a Mr. Slocum.
John Baker, Jr. and Geneva Coleman-Slocum had a child, Granville H. Baker, who died at the age of two. Geneva died in 1873. Interesting that when John Baker, Jr. married a third time to Hannah D. Kelley, their first born child was named Geneva.
