Alfred Tucker Coleman was born on February 28,l948 to Lillie Mae Bluford Wallce and Thomas Coleman,Sr. in Bastrop,Louisiana.Alfred was affectionately known as "Al" to family, "Hollywood Al" to close friends and colleagues and Daddy and Papa to his loving daughters and grandchildren.He started life journey by acquiring his education through the Los Angeles Unified School District,graduating from Fremont High School.He completed his education by obtaining and associate arts Degree from Southwest College.
On June 16,1969,Al joined the United States Navy and traveled around the world.He served his country faithfully for four years and received and Honorable Discharge.In May 1971,Al was joined in Holy Matrimony to Harriet Coleman.In 1973,Al began his career with the Department of Transportation Bureau of Parking Enforcement and Traffic Control. On December 11,2003 after thirty-three years of dedicated service,Al retired from the City of Los Angeles as a Senior Traffic Supervisor III.When asked about his retirement,Al would always respond with a smile,"Loving it".
As a child Al accepted Christ as his personal savior.Al lived life to the fullest.He loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.He gave the biggest and best parties,earning him the nickname "Hollywood Al".He was the life of the party his laugh,signature hats and generosity exemplified how much of a class act Al was.To know him was to love him.
On December 30,2009 Al Coleman departed his life to rest in the arms of the everlasting God along with other family members who preceded him in deathe;his father Thomas Coleman Sr;brothers, Thomas Coleman Jr,Ralph Coleman and Keith Walker,granddaughter Lauryn Berry and nephew Maurice Stephens.
In his departure Al leave loving memories to be cherished by his daughters,LaTonya McGhee-Berry and Tiffini Coleman-Hubbard;his devoted mother Lillie Mae Bluford Wallace;stepfather Reverend Willie Wallace,granddaughters,Jayde and Jayla Hubbard,grandsons,Charles III and Chase Berry,brothers Murry Coleman,Vincent Walker and Anthony Wallace;sisters Jacqulyn Walker,Annett Swain and Lillyette Redwine,brother in law Marvin Swain and Claude Redwine,a very special friend Priscilla PJ Baldwin, and a host of aunts,uncles, nieces,nephews,Cousin and other relatives and friends.
