Worcester County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: Jun. 27, 1845

Abijah was likely born in the part of Littleton, Mass. that became the town of Harvard. He was about seven when his father died, and his mother remarried to Samuel Garfield, a millwright. He was taught Garfield's trade, and went to Maine with his step-father, building mills. He was married (intention in Gouldsboro, ME May 1789) to Nancy Ann WILLIAMS. Abijah was a soldier in the Revolutioanry War. On a 22 Jul 1780 list of men raised to reinforce the Continental Army, Abijah's name appears with this description: age 17 yrs; stature, 5ft 9in; complexion, dark; residence, Harvard; marched to camp 22 Jul 1780 under command of Capt. William Scott. He was discharged 22 Jan 1781 with six months and 12 days service.

Abijah purchased property in the village of Prospect Harbor, town of Gouldsboro, where he lived the remainder of his life. On 31 Oct 1832, Abijah made application at Hancock Co., ME for a Revolutionary War pension, calling himself aged 70, and a resident of Gouldsboro. On 15 July 1846, his widow, aged 77, applied for widow's pension in Hancock Co., ME, and on 5 Apr 1855, aged 86, she applied for "BLW" [White does not say what BLW is in his book on Rev. War soldiers under the list of abbreviations, but it may have something to do with bounty land]. Abijah and Nancy had eleven children.
