Ray E. Cole, 72, of Alton died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Robertsville, Mo., a son of the late Elmer and Loretta (Bay) Cole. He was a machine foreman, retiring in 1975 from Owens-Illinois Glass Co., with 48 years of service.
He married the former Maud Chilton in October 1934 in Alton, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, surviving are four sisters, Effie Weeks, Margie Trusty and Bernice Enos, all of Alton, and Emma Anderson of St. Claire, Mo.; and two brothers, Charles of Alton and Harold of Godfrey.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Staten Funeral Home where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Edward Martin officiating.
Burial will be In Upper Alton Cemetery and the American Cancer Society has been designated as a memorial.
