BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Essie Phillips Cole, 63, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital.
She was born in Pulaski County, Va., the daughter of the late Roy T. and Louise P. (Farmer) Phillips. She had resided in Big Stone Gap since 1965. She was a retired U.S. Army ISG with the 1032nd Transportation Co., Gate City, Va., having served in the Gulf War. She served with the Virginia National Guard for 22 years.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap, where she was a member of the Wesleyan Circle.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Leroy Thomas Phillips; and a brother, Barry Dale Phillips.
Surviving are her husband, William B. "Bill" Cole; three sons, Brad Cole, Farmville, Va., Mike Cole, Spears Ferry, Va., and Greg Cole and wife Roberta, Farmville, Va.; three daughters, Dayna Bolinsky and husband Matt, Mt. Carmel, Tenn., Tammy Kennedy and husband Mike, of Webb City, Mo., and Jackie Fish and husband Kevin, of Indian Lake, N.Y.; grandchildren, Brandi Cole, Michael Cole, Jared Johnson, Robbie Cole, Marissa Cole, John B. Bolinsky, Jessi Bolinsky, Brent Johnson and Ashley Johnson; two brothers, Bobby Phillips and Billy Phillips of Pulaski County, Va.; four sisters, Sylvia Everson of Maryland, Nancy Edwards, Reba Dishon and Vickie Phillips, all of Pulaski County, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating.
Committal services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Farmer Family Cemetery in the Hiwassee community of Pulaski County, Va.
Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.
