Eugene (Gene) Cole, Jr, 83 SOUTH PORTLAND--Eugene (Gene) Cole, Jr. passed away on Friday, Sept. 12 at Maine Medical Center. He was born in Biddeford, in August of 1925. He was the son of Eugene and Elizabeth Cole. Gene graduated from Biddeford High School in 1943. Gene served in the US Navy [1943-1946] and spent duty on the U.S.S. Merrick in the Pacific Theater. He graduated in 1950 with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine, Orono. Gene was employed for 3 years by the Maine Central Railroad Engineering Department. He spent the next 27 years at Blue Rock as Superintendent, General Manager of Contractor Division and Chief Estimator. His last 10 years of employment was with Direnzo & Sons as General Manager of Contractors. In 1980, Gene married the late Margaret Plummer of Scarborough, a marriage that lasted 27 wonderful years. They both enjoyed and were long time members of the Willowdale Golf Club. They also enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially the great-grandchildren. Gene is survived by three sisters, Audrey Fogg of Saco, Judith Carter and her husband, Art of Seattle, Wash., Mildred Lawler of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, David Cole and his long time companion, Sue Gignac of Saco, Richard Cole and his wife, Pam of Scarborough, two daughters, Marcia Wildes and her husband, Mike of Windham, Stephanie LaRose and her husband, David of Cape Elizabeth; a stepdaughter, Gail Vickerson and her husband, Frank of South Portland, a stepson, James Paul Plummer and his wife, Ada of Newport News, Va.; 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 11:00 a.m. in Black Point Cemetery, Scarborough. Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gene Cole's name to: The Animal Refuge League P.O.
