NORTH HUDSON * Bernard "Nig" Colburn, 70, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Moses Ludington Hospital after a short illness.
Born May 5, 1936, in Lyon Mountain, he was the son of Francis and Beulah "Bessey" Colburn.
Bernard started his career as a construction worker before he became an assessor for the town of North Hudson, and he became chairman assessor, and then town Justice, and then ran for superintendent of highways before retiring after 27 years of services.
He loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his family and help his friends.
Bernard was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a North Hudson volunteer fireman.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Lloyd Coburn and Ephrim "Red" Coburn, and one brother-in-law, Dawn Gregory.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Doris (Pierce) Colburn of North Hudson; a daughter, Gina Colburn of Queensbury; one son, Bernie Colburn and his wife, Judith, of Arizona; one grandson, Tim Colburn and his wife, Nisha; one great-grandson, Justin, of Arizona, and his best friend, Cocoa; two sisters, Maybelle Gregory of Port Henry, and Rita Mitchell and her husband, Gary, of Lincoln Pond; one sister-in-law, Lou Coburn of Okeechobee, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Edward L. Kelly Funeral Home, Schroon Lake. A service will follow at 7 p.m.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to North Hudson Volunteer Fire Department or Schroon Lake Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 774, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
