Claire Hebert(Willis) Coit was born on December 5, 1920 in Evanston, Illinois. She was the daughter of Claire Wadleigh Willis (1892-1920) and Ellen Swartwout (Hebert) Willis (1889-1978). Her parents are buried in the Oswego Township Cemetery in Oswego, Illinois. She moved to Berkeley, California with her mother when she was 5 years old. Claire married Robert Coit on February 27, 1943 in Camp Stewart, Georgia. They had seven children: Joan, Catherine, Nancy, Carol, Alice, William, James and twenty grandchildren and 32 great grand children.
