Mrs. Mary Lizzie Rector, 87, 1001 south Sixth street, died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Pleasant church. The Rev. Merle Harmon will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Friends may call at Myers Chapel after 5:00 p.m. today. At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Rector was born December 25, 1882 in Wayne county, the daughter of Harlin and Mehittie (Doty) Coil. She was first married, on August 14, 1902 to Thomas Burgess, who died in 1953. In 1960 she was married to Arley Rector who survives.
Mrs. Rector was a member of the General Baptist church. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Myrtle Henson of Xenia and Leta Towne, of Mt. Vernon, two sons, Arvel Burgess of Mt. Vernon and Harlin Burgess of Salem; three sisters, Ethel Greenwalt of Keenes, Susie Foster of Mt. Vernon and Rebecca Henson of Flora; two stepsons Kelly Rector and Irvin Rector, both of Mt. Vernon; three step-daughters, Inez Halfacre of Bluford, Edna Hickey of Greenville and Venita Pickett of Villa Grove; 22 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
