Doris H. (Helen) Bayne, age 87, passed away at her home in Broken Bow Feb. 15, 2013 with family at her bedside.
Doris was born to Harry and Eva (Towers) Cohn in their home south of Maxwell Nov. 28, 1925. After getting most of her school education in the Maxwell area schools she moved to North Platte for her senior year and graduated from North Platte High School in 1943. She worked at W. J. O'Connor Dime store until she married Harold Bayne.
Shortly after marrying they moved to Hazard, the first of several moves to various towns in Nebraska before finally settling in Broken Bow.
Besides being a full-time wife and mother - for to this union seven children were born, Doris was an active member of the Broken Bow Does for many years. She loved to dance and enjoyed a good fast Polka, lively Waltz or country music tune - which lead her in 1982 to learn well the steps and movements to become a good square and round dancer and an active and enthusiastic member of square dancing for the rest of her life. She was a proud long-time member of Ed and Shirley Claflin's Wagon Wheeler's Square and Round Dance Club of Anselmo.
Doris is survived by her husband, Harold "Heavy" Bayne of Broken Bow; sons, Terry (w. Thoy) of Tucson, Ariz., Roger, Harold (Dercilia) both of Broken Bow, and Kevin (Lori) of Omaha; daughter, Vicki (Allan) Dorsey of Broken Bow; daughter-in-law, Noi (s. Calvin's wife) of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee (w. Laurel) Cohn of Grand Island; one brother-in-law, Casey Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Cohn, and Lois Cohn, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Doris in death were her parents, three brothers, and four sisters; a son, Calvin, who died in 1999; and a daughter, Connie, who died in infancy.
Govier Brothers Mortuary of Broken Bow is in charge of the arrangements. Cremation was chosen and services will be held at a later date in Kearney.
