Anne Eleanor Cohen Cederholm, 91, was born March 7, 1921, in Holyoke, MA, to Esther and Abraham Cohen, Jewish immigrants from Poland. She died on May 14, 2012.

She grew up in a home with four sisters and a brother and was an exemplary student throughout her school career, excelling at a young age in handwriting under the Palmer method, even though she was born left-handed but forced to write with her right hand in school. Her siblings, no slouches in the brains department, all insisted that Anne was the smartest one of the bunch. Throughout her life, she challenged herself with crossword puzzles and, well up in years, worked math problems in her head before double-checking herself on a calculator.

An honor graduate of Holyoke High School and the University of Massachusetts, she worked briefly in Washington, DC, during World War II decoding enemy messages before returning to Holyoke to work in her father's business. There she met Carl Cederholm, a handsome Swede, and they were married shortly thereafter.

They lived in a rural community in western Massachusetts, where they operated Cederholm Manufacturing Co. which manufactured land measuring wheels invented and patented by Mr. Cederholm. The wheels were sold internationally, but the bulk of the business was in the South, particularly in Texas, and in December 1955, they moved the business to Bastrop. Mrs. Cederholm was always the bookkeeper and office manager for the company, but she managed it on her own during her husband's long illness and after his death in 1987. She finally closed the business and retired when she was 75.

Anne Cederholm was totally devoted to her family, and while her two daughters were growing up, she was active in PTA and Band Parents. She spent many hours working at the concession stand at the football stadium and sitting in front of the band hall on Friday nights waiting for the band bus to return from games. She helped her daughters with homework and, according to them, was impossible to stump when you asked her to define a word and use it in a sentence. While they were in college, she also worked for the IRS and Maynard Insurance.

Mrs. Cederholm was predeceased by her husband, parents, four of five siblings, and her stepson, Carl Cederholm, Lincoln, RI.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Stooksberry and husband Larry of Austin, and Carol Reidy and husband Jim of Bastrop and Clermont, GA; six grandchildren, Beth Reidy Harrison, Canton, GA; Greg Reidy, Bastrop; David Alan, Austin; Lindsay Stooksberry Mihalcik, Nashville; Jennifer Reidy Cartwright, Liberty, MO; and Patricia Reidy Merino, Lawrenceville, GA, formerly of Bastrop; four great-granddaughters, Alexis, Josilin, Ava, and Gabrielle Merino; and a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Saul Ulano, Boca Raton, FL.

The family thanks Rosemary Lee of College Station for the loving care she provided in recent months. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to the Bastrop Public Library or your favorite charity.

Graveside services were held Wednesday May 16, 2012 at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop, Texas.
