Leba (Elizabeth) Kaplan Cohen was born in April of 1860, daughter of Lina Shereshersky and Lemech Kaplan, and sister of Basha Kaplan Friedman (ID 133463919) and Bluma Kaplan Shapiro (ID 134271474.) Leba emigrated with her sisters around 1882 and lived at first in St. Paul, Minnesota. She married Max Cohen in February of 1884, and their first child was born in Minnesota in 1886. The couple then joined her sister Basha in a Jewish farming colony in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota Territory. A second child was born there in 1887, before the three Kaplan sisters all moved with their families to the Pacific Northwest. Leba and Max had several more children in Seattle, then lived for several decades in Tacoma.
