Anna Bell Coffey, 96, a longtime resident of Fort Worth, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, in Plano.
Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the Rev. D. Timothy Thompson and the Rev. Msgr. R. James Balint officiating. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
Pallbearers: Joseph M. Coffey III, John Matthew Coffey, James Mark Coffey, Christopher James Nay, John Hanson Hargrave and John W. Crumley.
Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 5801 Mount Carmel Drive, Arlington, Texas 76017.
Anna Bell was born July 8, 1911, in Purcell, Okla., daughter of the late Walter Henry and Sarah Jane Mulkerrin Sparger. A graduate of Amarillo High School, she attended Incarnate Word College before earning a bachelor of science degree in education from Texas Christian University in 1937. In her early life, she taught school in San Angelo and Fort Worth.
With a lifelong interest in art, she enjoyed painting and illustrated a fourth-grade reader for the state of Texas titled "Little Americans." While rearing her family, she was always interested in helping with school projects and parish life. She enjoyed supporting her children in pursuing their talents and interests. She also grew fond of and became very involved in establishing and supporting the Carmelite nuns in Fort Worth. After her children were grown, she worked in the admissions office at TCU and staffed the docent and education programs for Kimbell Art Museum.
In addition to her parents, Anna Bell was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Michael Coffey; and sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Sparger and Mary Agnes Sparger.
Survivors: Her children, Joseph Michael Coffey Jr. and wife, Barbara, Patricia Coffey Nay and husband, Gary, and Mary Joyce Coffey; grandchildren, Joseph Michael Coffey III and wife, Daphne, Janice Marie Hargrave and husband, John, John Matthew Coffey, James Mark Coffey, Christopher James Nay and wife, Katrina, and Colleen Elizabeth Nay; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Michael Coffey IV, Lily Marie Hargrave and James Alexander Nay.
