Obituary: Lorene Coffey Brown, 92, of Decatur, Ga., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2013, in Hospice Atlanta after a short illness.
She was born July 14, 1920 in Harriman to James Lee Coffey and Clatie Pearl Morgan Coffey of the Riggs Chapel cmmunity in Harriman.
She was employed at Burlington Hosiery Mill in Harriman, at Kellogg and then at Adams-Cates Realty in Atlanta, where she served as executive secretary for 27 years.
She and her husband, Tommie F. Brown, a Rockwood native, enjoyed travel and photography. She was a member of Chamblee, Ga., First United Methodist, where she played piano for her Sunday school class. She will be missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Coffey and Lowell Coffey; and sisters, Zelma McKinney, Ruby Stegall and Allene Coffey.
Survivors include sisters, Violet Sloan and husband Bob, Livonia, Helen Hegwood, Decatur, and Anna Sloan and husband Jim, Jackson, Ala.; brothers, Thurman Coffey and wife Lula, Harriman, and Clarence Coffey and wife Bonita, Crossville; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in Evans Mortuary, Rockwood. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, in the chapel of Evans Mortuary, with the Rev. Hascue Carter officiating. Graveside services and burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood.
