Columbus Republic 15 Jan 1972 Mrs. Askren Dies on Way To Hospital
SCIPIO - Mrs. Edna Louise Askren, 46, of Route 1 died Friday en route to Bartholomew county hospital where she was being taken by her husband, James Askren. She had been in ill health for three months.
Mrs. Askren was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Decatur county, the daughter of Forrest and Hattie Ponsler Coffey. Her mother survives at Waynesburg.
Mrs. Askren was a graduate of Jackson township high school and St. Margaret's hospital school of nursing at Hammond. She was employed as a registered nurse at Bartholomew county hospital at the time of her death. She was a member of the North Vernon Women of the Moose.
Mrs. Askren was married to Mr. Askren Sept. 6, 1955, at Jeffersonville.
Other survivors include two sons, James Kevin and Kim Jeffrey, both at home; three sisters, Miss Alberta Coffey of Waynesburg, Mrs. Georgia Dix of 271 Coovert street, Columbus, and Mrs. Bessie Sparks of Louisville; and a brother, Charles Coffey of 825 Seventh street, Columbus.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bass funeral home at Westport, by the Rev. Paul Byard and the Rev. Ralph Mohler. Persons may call after 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at the Westport cemetery.
