Mr. Elroy Coffey, the son of the late Cashus C. and Ina Coomer Coffey was born August 8, 1921 in Adair County and departed this life on June 30, 2001 in Greensburg at the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital. He was 79 years, 10 months and 22 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church. He is a Veteran of WWII having served 1 year, 9 montsh and 18 days on Continental Service and 1 year 3 months and 12 days of Foreign Service in the U.S. Army. He was a private first class in Co. G 407th Infantry. He was decorated with the Combat Infantry Badge & Marksman, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. His battles and campaigns consisted of Rhineland and Central Europe. His duties were Rifleman, assisting in placing direct fire on enemy positions, day & night patrol work, messenger for company carrying oral and written messages. He united in marriage on May 8, 1942 to Venie A. Moss. To this union was born two sons: Roy Coffey of Lexington and Phil Coffey of Greensburg; two daughters: Margaret Jachym of Mannsville, Ohio and Deborah Atwell of Greensburg. Also surviving are 3 brothers: Ural, Clavis and Raymond Coffey all of Columbia; three sisters: Margie Corbin, Pearl Bennett and Charity Edwards all of Columbia. 3 grandchildren: Mischa Tirabasso of Lebanon, Josh Atwell and Kali Atwell both of Lexington. 2 Step-Grandchildren: Bryan Harvey and Aundra Harvey both of Columbia. 2 great-grandchildren: Morgan Tirabasso and Kendall Tirabasso both of Lebanon. 1 Step-great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Harvey and a host of other relatives and friends survive. The Funeral Services for Mr. Elroy Coffey will be conducted Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at 1:00 P.M. at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Adair County. Rev. Pat Humphrey, Rev. Ronnie Turner and Rev. Steve Coffey will be officiating. Family request the expressions of sympathy be in the form of a donation to the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Fund.
