Mrs. Cody was born July 16, 1929, in Madison County, and was a resident of Buncombe County since 1963. She formerly was employed at Hamberlund in Mars Hill and later at Hadley's of Weaverville. Mrs. Cody was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church.
Her parents, Earl and Dora Franklin Rice, as well as her brothers, Harmon and Rankin Rice, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her loving husband of 56 years, V.W. Buster Cody; sisters, Imogene Lewis and husband, Ralph, of Enka, Glennis Ponder and husband, Tony, of Arden, and Locella Velthouse and husband, Larry, of Summerton, S.C.; brother, Earl Dean Rice, and wife, Dianne, of Weaverville; special niece, Jennifer Whitt, of Atlanta; and many other nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Barry Fisher officiating.
Burial will be in West Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
